WE'RE GETTING MARRIED!

This site has all the info you need to come celebrate with us for the weekend on Camano Island, Washington.

The meet cute(s)

By Courtney

November 2012: Cute boy walks up to me in in a Google cafe to tell me he likes my Patagonia jacket while wearing a nearly identical one.

December 2013: Said boy and I run into each other often in the mornings in the Google micro-kitchens. We never speak, but smile when we walk by each other.

January 2013: Same cute boy holds the door open for me while I come into the building from the parking lot. He holds it open super early while I'm still at my car, so I run to (unsuccessfully) make it less awkward.

April 2, 2013 (my birthday): 20,000 Googlers fly to Vegas for a "work conference." While attending a rooftop party, I build up the confidence to go introduce myself to Jason. Wait - I would never be brave enough to do that. Instead, I send my friend over to make an introduction to the "cute guy in a blue shirt who I see around my building all the time." Jason does his best to woo me by doing the dance from Gangnam Style, then invites me and my friends to celebrate my birthday with his friends at the 1 OAK nightclub (Michael Jordan was there, and it was also the last time we set foot in a club).

Later April 2013: Once returning back home, we go on our first date (in Jason's opinion) to Crepevine, then our real first date on a hike at Rancho San Antonio where we were chased by wild turkeys.

The rest, as they say, is history (or herstory).

We've been really lucky to build a life away from home with wonderful friends, fun projects (crafts for Courtney and craft cider for Jason), adventure and travel (60+ flights and 11 countries), and lots of free food at work.

July 1, 2017

Planning a surprise proposal for somebody who doesn’t like surprises poses its own set of unique challenges. While I was inspired by our friend’s tales of surprise parties, helicopter rides, and other elaborate engagement stories, I knew none of this was Courtney. I knew she needed to have her family around (Whidbey included), and it had to be at Camano.

While we headed North for the 4th of July, I had my brother drive down from Canada with his drone to represent team Sanio, and capture the proposal on film. On July 1st, a holiday for both sides of the family, we celebrated opening day of crabbing season and Canada Day on the beach. Just before dinner as the sun started to set, it was go time.

Courtney and I took a walk down the beach where I used my prepared bullet points to woo her with my proposal. Just as I got down on one knee, my brother’s drone caught the footage from above. She said yes (nailed it!), and we celebrated with our family over a feast of crab, champagne, and homemade pie.

Thanks to Carson Hancock Photography for the wonderful engagement pics!
